At 4:35 a.m. AP News officially reported that former President Donald Trump won the 2024 election, but by then, Auburn students had been celebrating for hours. Most started to consider the presidential election over after Trump won the key battleground state of Pennsylvania.

The first ever Live on the Plains is coming to the Auburn-Opelika area on Nov. 9, featuring the sounds of Headliner Tyler Childers and smaller country artists. The one-day music festival welcomes all guests ranging from large families to solo music lovers. Gates will open at 3 p.m. but attendees are encouraged to arrive early for parking and a tailgating experience outside of the venue.

The Auburn Speaks public speaking competition is set to be rescheduled after a potential security threat was reported at the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center on Nov. 4. Entrances to the event were supposed to close at 6 p.m. for the start of the competition, however, GPAC sent a cancellation email to students who had previously rsvp'd for the event at 5:59 p.m.

Since 2000, Gallup has conducted a poll measuring voter enthusiasm going into presidential elections. This year, 54% of voters polled reported they were more enthusiastic about voting in this presidential election, while 41% were less enthusiastic.

As autumn once again comes into the greater Auburn area, Syrup Sopping Day makes its annual return to Pioneer Park in Loachapoka on Saturday, Oct 26th. The festival, known for its traditional syrup-making and sugar-milling displays, has returned to Loachapoka for the better part of a century each October to celebrate Lee County's rich agricultural history. Hosted by the Lee County Historical Society, Syrup Soppin' at Pioneer Park is free to attend and is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, with over ten thousand visitors expected.

UPDATE: On Oct. 23, Opelika Police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile from Montgomery, AL after making a terroristic threat on Opelika High School. According to a press release by the Opelika Police Department on Oct. 24, the arrest is in relation to the lockdown Opelika High School placed on Oct. 22 after someone called and threatened they were on their way to shoot up the school.

On October 17, Tipoff at Toomer’s marked the highly anticipated beginning of Auburn University’s men’s and women’s basketball seasons. The event made its long-awaited return to the Plains since its last appearance three years ago in 2021. This year, Tipoff at Toomers expanded to include more festivities, including a marketplace and a live music performance by popular country music artist Cole Swindell.

As October continues on the Plains, Auburn's Oktoberfest returns on Saturday Oct. 19 at the Agricultural Heritage Park with some of the best breweries in the country. As one of the largest beer festivals in the south, the event will feature a wide variety of live music, contests, dog races, food trucks and a large selection of local and national brewers. More than a dozen homebrewers will be competing at the festival for the votes of attendees to be anointed the best homebrewer in central Alabama.
