For the past two years, Auburn University’s College of Agriculture has conducted research to help peach farmers combat a crop-destroying disease: bacterial spot. Led by Dr. Edgar Vinson, assistant extension professor at the Chilton County Research & Extension Center in Clanton, Alabama, researchers aim to utilize a type of virus called a bacteriophage to counter bacterial spot.

In a STEM major's mind, it may seem unnoticeable that you aren’t well versed in the arts. By the arts, I mean writing well, speaking well and having knowledge of relevant literature and visual arts. But to an outside observer taught in the classical style of education – grammar, logic, rhetoric – it feels necessary to speak on the gaping hole of intellect and respect that STEM students have for the arts. Not only do I argue that it is noticeable, but it is extremely problematic.

Another offensive power was once again the decider last match, as Auburn (8-2, 0-0) beat Samford (4-6, 0-0) in four sets, 3-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-14) on Friday night in the Pete Hanna Center. Auburn hit .400 for the match, marking the second time this season the Tigers have reached .400 and the sixth time they have eclipsed .300.

Auburn volleyball wraps up its solid non-conference schedule at the Alabama Showdown hosted by Samford University at the Pete Hanna Center. Over three days, the Tigers will face three teams from the state of Alabama, starting with UAB on September 18 at 3:30 p.m. and followed by Samford and South Alabama. Auburn’s game against Samford will air on ESPN+.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 17, Civil Rights Movement attorney Fred Gray spoke at Auburn University’s annual Constitution Day lecture in the Foy Hall Ballroom. At the lecture dedicated to the signing of the United States Constitution, Gray spoke about his legal career in arguing for the constitutional rights of African Americans.

On Sept. 16, Alabama State House Representatives Jeremy Gray and Phillip Ensler attended a discussion with members of the Auburn-Opelika community regarding ways to prevent violence among young individuals in Alabama. The event was hosted by Moms Demand Action, an organization dedicated to protecting individuals from gun violence through public safety measures, and was held at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church.
