University fashion students compete in Student Design League contest

The Student Design League was created at Auburn in Aug. 2015 as a partnership between the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences in the University's College of Human Sciences and Robin Ruth, a leading fashion brand for travelers and tourists.

The voting period on this year’s designs began Nov. 14 and ended Nov. 20. The winner will be announced Dec. 1.

The five other schools participating in the contest include Florida State University, University of Alabama, University of Arkansas, University of Tennessee and West Virginia University. Each school has five entries.

One winner will be chosen from each school competing, then those six winners will compete for two summer internships at Robin Ruth in New York.

For every winning t-shirt sold, a portion of the proceeds go toward funding scholarships for Auburn fashion students to study abroad.

The six winners from each school will compete based on which design produces the most sales, with the winner receiving a cash prize.

Robin Ruth is self-described as an international casual lifestyle brand for the free-spirited traveler, and is represented in major cities around the world.

Auburn native and student Alaundra Shealey won with her t-shirt design of Toomer’s Oaks with “war eagle” written in toilet paper last year.

Auburn’s Apparel Merchandising program is ranked number two nationally, and number one in the South.
