City to host Bark in the Park Saturday

Auburn's Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the fifth annual Bark in the Park at Kiesel Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.

Bark in the Park is a rain-or-shine, free event for dogs and dog owners in the Auburn and Opelika areas.

The purpose of this event is to promote responsible dog ownership and to showcase local care services for dogs, city officials said.

"I love seeing all the different types of dogs at the event, ranging from rescue dogs to beautiful rare breeds," said Molly Hulsey, an Auburn resident. "It’s a great opportunity for my dogs to have fun and play with others".

This will be Molly's fifth year of attendance with her two boxers.

The event will consist of many local vendors including groomers, dog sitters, dog boutiques, free microchipping, dogs for adoption and many other vendors.

Along with the vendors, there will be events for the dogs such as the Doggie Olympics, peanut butter eating contests, five minute dog portraits and the Hound Hunt.

"Every year we've had about 500 to 800 attendees, and we are looking forward to another success," said Gabby Meredith, a public relations specialist for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Registration for the Doggie Olympics will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will cost $2 for each event the owner's dog is entered in.

Owners will be able to purchase Chicken Salad Chick or Kona Ice while watching their dogs play and participate in events.
