On Friday, Sep. 12, Auburn University hosted the annual homecoming parade. Beginning its run through Downtown Auburn at 6 p.m., the parade featured local businesses, student organizations and other members of the community.
The Auburn community provides its students with many choices when it comes to where they spend their free time. These leisurely activities include attending local events, working out, or going on a first date. However, some locations and businesses are uniquely special due to their above and beyond services and welcoming environments. Plainsman’s Choice: Leisure will showcase the winners of these student-voted categories.
On Saturday, June 14, at 4 p.m., Auburn and Opelika residents joined to participate in the ‘No Kings” protest. Part of a nationwide initiative organized by the 50501 Movement, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states and one movement, protesters gathered to show their defiance against President Trump’s policies and reject what they call “authoritarianism.” The event was scheduled to align with the Army’s 250th anniversary celebration, Flag Day and the President’s 79th birthday.
On Saturday, May 31, the 11th annual Burger Wars was hosted in downtown Opelika, with 22 grillers competing for cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights. Hosted by the Opelika Rotary Charitable Foundation, the goal was not only to create a competitive culinary environment but also to fundraise for local charities.
On Tuesday, April 22, Auburn UPC hosted their Earth Day Extravaganza. Over 20 on-campus and community organizations showcased their causes through informational graphics and fun activities. The event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featured activities like flower bouquet making, t-shirt stamping and other crafts.
On Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m., the Auburn University SGA Lobby Board hosted Alabama State House Representative Jeremy Gray from District 83. The discussion took place in Lowder Hall, with a focus on higher education, and specific questions related to Gray’s career in politics.
The new Wi-Fi, along with other improvements, will ensure students and faculty have uninterrupted and improved access to the internet, something that has not always been the case.
On Friday, Feb. 28, the Student Government Association hosted a birthday celebration in honor of Aubie, Auburn's beloved mascot, who celebrated his 46th birthday at the Harold D. Melton Student Center.
Savanh Thai Kitchen opened its doors in 2018 at 1750 Opelika Rd. in Auburn, with a new takeout location on South College St. in December 2024. Generations of the Malavong family run the business, each having a different role. Nicholas Harrison, the restaurant's current manager, explained the business's history.
Hailey Bergenthal, a junior studying law and justice, is running unopposed for SGA Treasurer, focusing on financial literacy and accessibility for Auburn students. She promises that by "Banking on Bergenthal," students can invest in resources, appreciate wealth and bank on their futures as Auburn alumni.
