Chinese Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong honored Auburn University with his presence the past two days.
The ambassador met with University President Dr. Jay Gogue and Alabama Governor Bob Riley to discuss economics and the importance of international relations along with a few environmental issues.
After his meetings and a tour around the campus, Ambassador Wenzhong gave a speech in the Auburn University Student Center Ballroom discussing China's development and China-US relations.
Wenzhong said he was impressed with the beauty of the Auburn campus and the effort of the University to establish relations with China.
The ambassador further emphasized that China cannot develop in isolation from the US. Peace played a key role in international relations and that the China-US relationship has become one of the most promising in the world.
"It is obvious that the United States and China do not always agree on everything because of their history and social lifestyle, but the key is to be able to properly handle problems because of mutual respect," Wenzhong said.
According to Wenzhong, the Chinese government is excited about the Obama administration and hope to further advance bilateral relations. President Obama is invited and scheduled to visit Chinese President Hu Jintao Nov. 15-18 to discuss future relations between the two nations.
Wenzhong further discussed China's plans to become a more eco-friendly environment and their 10-year energy plan to promote cleaner and more efficient power, forests and air.
Ambassador Wenzhong will spend more time with President Gogue before traveling to Washington D.C. this week.
