Men's basketball falls on the road to Arkansas 82-79 in overtime

The Auburn Men's Basketball team (11-12, 2-6) left Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, Ark., defeated Saturday afternoon after going into overtime with the Arkansas Razorbacks (12-11, 5-3).

Auburn coach Jeff Lebo said the loss was heartbreaking to his players.

"I am very proud of my team with the way we played today," Lebo said. "We had a three ball at the end of the game that went in and out and a block-charge call at the end of the game."

Sophomore guard Courtney Fortson led Arkansas to victory, when scoring eight of his 24 game points in overtime.

Sophomore guard Frankie Sullivan and senior guard Tay Waller led the Tigers, each scoring 18 points.

After Fortson made one foul shot, Sullivan missed a half-court shot that would have given the Tigers another chance in double-overtime.

"I thought it was good when it left my hand," said Sullivan of the shot that bounced off the rim as the clock sounded. "I lost control of the ball and I could have gotten a better shot than that. It was a tough loss."

With three minutes left in the game, Waller's 3-point shot left Auburn up 63-62. Waller added two more points with one minute left in the game, but freshman forward Marshawn Powell made two foul shots to tie the game at 65 points.

Before the half the Tigers seemed to be playing well, as senior guard DeWayne Reed sank a 3-point shot, increasing Auburn's lead to 36-27. Auburn held the lead at halftime 38-36.

Reed and Waller brought the Tigers back on top 50-49 during the second half. Senior forward Lucas Hargrove added to the gap by adding three points to Auburn's score.

"We knew we were going to get to the cup," Waller said. "It was just the point of stopping him the whole game. I think we did a pretty good job in the first half and overtime, we let down defensively."

In overtime, Auburn made 4-of-8 shots from the field while Arkansas made 5-of-6.

The Tigers host Georgia Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m.
