The No. 17 Women's Gymnastics team closed the Coliseum with a win, beating No. 20 Denver, 196.225-194.350.
The meet was the final regular season event in the closing Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum and was also senior night for the gymnastics team.
Senior Carmen Nelms, who has been training since she was 3 years old, said she felt this night was 18 years coming.
"It's kind of bittersweet because this season has been going really well, but you'd like to have your last season going this well," Nelms said.
The Tigers swept the beam event, something head coach Jeff Thompson said didn't surprise him.
"We're at the point in practice now where they have to do wobble-free routines and they do that," Thompson said. "The only mistakes we really made were on dismounts, but that was some of the best beam I've ever seen."
The Tigers started out on vault, with sophomore Allyson Sandusky earning a meet-high 9.925.
Denver's first rotation was on the uneven bars and several women fell during routines. Auburn led out of the first rotation, 49.10048.250. The second event of the night for Auburn was the bars. Freshman Petrina Yokay tied for first in the event with a 9.875. Second for Denver was the vault. Sophomore Brianna Artemev earned a team-high 9.850.
On the third rotation, the Tigers were on beam.
Out of the six routines each team performed, the lowest score for Auburn matched the highest score for the Pioneers.
Sandusky, who placed third in the event, said she loves helping her team and was happy to see how well the women did on beam.
"When we were doing beam, we just stuck to the logic from practice," Sandusky said. "We knew we could hit our routines, and it was awesome to hit them one right after the other."
Going into the final rotation, Auburn led by 1.525 and took to the floor. Freshman Toi Garcia scored a collegiate-best 9.875. Several women had problems on floor and most fell on at least one tumbling pass. Thompson said a big reason why the women struggled was due to the new foam on the competition floor this year. "We're actually trying to get it replaced; we don't want to use it anymore," Thompson said. "That's why everybody has struggled here on floor, and you don't have enough time in 15 minute warm-ups to figure it out."
Denver's Artemev won the all-around competition with a 39.300, while Auburn senior Krissy Voss earned 39.025 in her last home meet.
Next up for Auburn is back-to-back road meets at Ohio State and Maryland before the SEC tournament begins March 27.
"The fact that we got a really good home meet score is really going to help us with our average and everything," Sandusky said. "It's going to be a lot of fun to travel, and we're definitely excited."
