Attempted Sexual Assault Near Campus

An attempted sexual assault occurred at an apartment complex near campus in the 400 block of West Magnolia Avenue between 1:40 and 2 a.m.

The suspect is described as a muscular-built Hispanic male with dark complexion, 5'6", 150 lbs, wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans, according to Tommy Dawson, assistant police chief.

"If you see someone suspicious, particularly if they match this description, please give us a call," Dawson said. "If you see somebody suspicious, you can call 911 if you like, and I will send an officer out immediately to contact the person."

A weapon was not involved in the incident.

"No weapon was used," Dawson said. "A woman was threatened, but no weapon was used, no weapon was ever seen."

Not many other details are available at this time.

"I have got to be able to catch him first and then prosecute a case against him," Dawson said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and urge the university community to be vigilant and exercise caution. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident should contact Auburn Police Department at 501-3140.
