A spirit that is not afraid

Women's Tennis strives for a victory at home.

Women's tennis will face the LSU Tigers Friday at home after an uneasy loss in Lexington against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Auburn will attempt to bounce back after their 5-1 loss to the Wildcats Sunday.

Although the team took a tough loss to the Wildcats Sunday, they are trying to stay positive.

"Every time after every match is a new day; tomorrow is a new day," said junior Taylor Schreimann. "LSU is going to be a completely different match so we'll just come out being aggressive and learn from this and build from this match."

LSU was shut out in their last two matches against No.7 Georgia and No. 21 Tennessee, but Auburn continues to focus on their play to bring a victory to the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

"We've got to really come out and do the things in the match that we do at practice," said head coach Tim Gray. "If we can do that we're going to be happy with the outcome; if we don't it's not going to be good."

The team believes they can bounce back from their loss in Lexington and will refocus in practice this week.

"We have to come out with a positive attitude without a fear of the outcome, and we've got to just play and do the things we are capable of doing," Gray said.

The team is excited to play at home this weekend, but keeps in mind the pressure they face Friday.

"We have to be prepared to play both home and away," Schreimann said. "I don't think playing at home affects one thing or the other. We might enjoy it a little bit more, but we're prepared to play both home and away."

In spite of Auburn dealing with sickness and injuries, Gray believes his team needs to step up on the court.

"I feel like we are a completely different match than we are a practice team," Gray said. "We have to come out with a positive attitude without a fear of the outcome, and we've got to just play and do the things we are capable of doing."

The team is ready to play in front of the home crowd as they prepare for LSU at home.

"We all enjoy playing at home. Because it's our home court we are comfortable there," Schreimann said.

AU Tennis bumper stickers will be given away to the first 50 fans, and free Brick Over Pizza will be provided during intermission of the match. Fans are encouraged to wear all orange to help support the team.

"We hope for a big crowd that day for sure," Gray said.

Auburn will host LSU in the Yarbrough Tennis Center Friday at 2:30 p.m.
