Iris Prosch died Monday, September 3 after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.

Junior fullback Jay Prosch is not currently with the team after the passing of his mother.

"Jay's in Mobile right now, and we just ask that everybody keeps him in their thoughts and prayers, and it's a very difficult time for him as you would imagine," Gene Chizik said Monday. "He's doing fine, as fine as you can be under the circumstances."

Prosch transferred to Auburn after two years at Illinois to be closer to his mother in Mobile and was granted a hardship waiver that made him immediately eligible to play this season.

Iris Prosch was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme in April 2011.

According to Chizik, funeral arrangements and details of Jay's return to Auburn remain unknown.

"We're trying to all be very respectful of the situation but we don't really have many details to different funeral arrangements and things of that nature," Chizik said. "We don't really have any details other than that, and as we get them later today or tomorrow, we'll certainly let you know what the situation is with him returning and things of that nature."
