Despite record breaking attendance in the Auburn Arena, the Auburn Tigers volleyball team fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide in 4 sets (25-17, 15-25, 14-25, 15-25) on Wednesday night.
The Tigers' fourth consecutive loss drops Auburn's record to 9-5 overall and 0-2 in SEC competition.
The 1,810 in attendance shattered the previous school record of 1,213 that was set in a 2009 match against LSU.
The Tigers rode the crowd's energy to a 25-17 first set victory, but the Crimson Tide (13-3, 1-1 SEC) proved to be too much, storming back to take the next three sets.
Senior Katherine Culwell led Auburn with 10 kills and nine digs while senior Chelsea Wintzinger contributed 14 assists and five digs. Senior libero Sarah Wroblicky had 20 digs on the night.
Auburn dominated the Tide in the first set with a hit percentage of .345%, but 27 errors in sets two through four ultimately doomed the Tigers.
Senior middle blocker Camila Jersonsky struggled on Thursday night, tallying only five kills with eight errors.
Redshirt freshman Krystal Rivers led the way for the Tide with 18 kills and only three errors. Sophomore Sierra Wilson totaled 47 assists in the Tide's victory.
The Tigers next chance to break their losing streak will come on Friday when the team travels to Columbia to take on the undefeated Missouri Tigers (17-0, 2-0 SEC).
