Judge grants motions to quash two subpoenas in Hubbard trial

Two motions to quash subpoenas in Speaker Mike Hubbard’s trial were granted Monday, May 12.

Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob A. Walker granted the subpoenas in favor of the prosecution, according to the Opelika-Auburn News.

The two subpoenas involved Gov. Robert Bentley’s office and the Custodian of Records for the Alabama Ethics Commission.

Walker has not ruled on the state’s other motions to quash subpoenas requesting testimony from the Alabama Attorney General’s office.

Hubbard has been charged with 23 counts of ethics violations. His defense lawyers are seeking to get the charges thrown out.

The trial is set to begin Oct. 19.
