After Auburn University there is a Future

Once students graduate from Auburn, they are greeted with job opportunities.

Auburn University is an university well-known for its success because the faculty members ensure that their students gain the opportunity to receive a job interview once they are Seniors. In particular, Auburn students from the College of Architecture, Design and Construction has received an astounding 100 percent employment rate once they graduated for two consecutive semesters. When Vini Nathan, the dean and McWhorter Chair of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADA), states that due to the from professors, students are given sufficient resources, which prepares them for their future. Nathan states, "Through a robust curriculum; by professors who are closely tied to industry; by having industry experts contribute as and when appropriate in the learning process; by exposing our students to a variety of perspectives (though their peers, faculty, guest speakers, lectures series), through study abroad, field studies and other highly immersive academic learning experiences; through the extensive network of AU alumni, industry partners, and supporters," is the reason behind CADA students success. These same steps in preparation have helped students from different colleges as well. However, students are not the only individuals who benefit from employment. The employers gain eager students who are qualified for their jobs, while Auburn faculty members receive updated information about the former students and their employers experience with working with each other. This notion is helpful because professors will adjust their future curriculums' based on the updated information they receive.

Cassandra Calloway, a career services specialist for the McWhorter School makes a similar statement when she states that some of the ways students are prepared for their future jobs are that they are motivated to have various on-hands experience such as co-ops and internships in order to gain knowledge.

Along with students in the CADA, there is a 100 rate that students in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences will receive successful jobs as well. The director of student services, Jodie Kenney states, “that many industry foresters are retiring,” which causes Auburn graduates to step in and have these job opportunities. Kenney also states that on average, six out of seven forestry employers approach students at the School of Forestry and Wildlife Services with job offers.  This cause students to be guaranteed a job before their spring semester or once they graduate.

Students that study horticulture, includes nursing, greenhouse production, and landscape. Harry Ponder, a professor in horticulture, discusses that people in the job market are impressed with Auburn Seniors, so they tend to ask for more graduating students than what is actually available.

Also, when students are studying a major in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, they have high-employment rates as well. Jim Killian, who is the director of communications and marketing for the college reveals that participating in co-ops or internships effective because these students usually earn jobs before they receive their diplomas.

Another set of students who receive job offers once they graduate is students who study in the College of Human Sciences. Specifically, all interior design students, who study under the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences have received jobs immediately after their graduations. This has occurred for 15 years because students participated in internships, which causes them to have an increasing chance towards finding a job. Furthermore, students in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies have been surveyed to track their success since graduating. Students from the Class of 2013 and 2014 admits that they found success in the job market. Most of their responses reveals that they are employed within their Human Development and Family Studies field. The third program, the Hotel and Restaurant Management, had the Class of 2014 at a 91.3 percent of its students with jobs, while 100 percent of students had jobs for the Class of 2015.

Furthermore, the School of Nursing successfully has 97.9 percent of its 2015 graduates’ with jobs, while the College of Agriculture states that 90 percent of its economics, agriculture business, and poultry science students received jobs.

The director for the Career Center on Auburn’s campus confirms the fact that Auburn University students continuously receive job offers prior to and after graduation is due to their work ethic towards their academics and extra-curricular activities. Nancy Bernard states, “Over 20 career fairs were held during the fall and spring semesters giving Auburn students the opportunity to network with representatives from hundreds of employers and organizations….We consistently hear from employers that they seek to hire Auburn graduates because of their proven success within their organizations.” Her comment helps to ensure that as long as Auburn students work their hardest, their work will pay off. Lastly, when Dan Givens, the associate dean of academic affairs who works in the College of Veterinary Medicine states that “…students have to learn how to become a learner, a long-life learner,” shows the discipline students have to withstand in order to have successful futures.
