Benefits of decorating your place for Christmas

For those who celebrate Christmas, they know how much fun it is to decorate for the holidays. Once it’s December, or even before that, they start to see Christmas trees filled with ornaments, peppermint flavored drinks, and weird animals that sing Christmas carols when they press a button. For those who live at school, they only see most of the Christmas décor at home with family. Maybe they live in a dorm or an apartment and don’t have the place decorated, and if they did, would it remind them of home or Christmas? Maybe decorating their place would make them happier.

There are a lot of ways that holiday decorations can affect people emotionally without their even noticing it. Not everyone listens to Christmas music by choice, but when they hear those peppy melodies, they’re proven to make us happier. When they’re in the store and hear the popular song, “Walking in a Winter Wonderland,” they can’t help but sing along with the infectious melodies and that guarantees a smile on their faces.

Decorations seem to create a cozy and festive ambiance for family and friends to enjoy, and Christmas is meant to be a happy time. When it’s finally December, to college students, that just makes them realize it’s time for finals. So because of that, the time of celebrating Christmas is limited compared to others who have a whole month to be in the ‘holiday spirit.’ Perhaps decorating their place, whether it be a dorm or apartment, would actually make them happier during the period of finals.

Even if they have a small 12-inch sparkly tree on your desk in the dorm, it still could have a positive influence. Outdoor decorations like lights on a balcony or even a wreath the front door of the apartment exhibits friendliness, in comparison to places that are plain with no decorations. People tend to be in a better and cheerful mood when around all the holiday décor, it seems.
