After feeding 351 people, 0.2 pounds of waste were produced leaving the rest to be recycled, composted or reused at the annual Sustainability Picnic on Wednesday evening.
The Office of Sustainability held the event and welcomed local farmers along with Tiger Dining to feed guests sustainably.
“[There are] all the different aspects of sustainability, it’s not just nature and the environment, but also the broader picture of sustainability,” said Jen Morse, communications and outreach manager for the Office of Sustainability.
The Office of Sustainability hopes to be carbon neutral by the year 2050.
Students are not the only people who can get involved with The Office of Sustainability. The office is also implementing a program this year for employees called a Peer Network to “Extend Responsible Stewardship” across Auburn’s campus and through our faculty.
“[It is] a way for employees to engage their peers within their unit of sustainability," Morse said. These Peer Networks are aimed to save Auburn money, water, energy, paper and waste.
