Auburn softball improves to 7-0 with road win over Troy

The No. 13 Auburn Tigers continued their dominance on the softball diamond, defeating the Troy Trojans 5-0 to extend their record to 7-0.

The Tigers entered the game riding a six-game win streak, including dominant wins in their doubleheaders this past weekend. In their previous six games, Auburn pitchers shut out opposing teams in all but one of the games.

Auburn, still in non-conference play, traveled to in-state Troy University where they matched up with the 3-0 Trojans.

The Tigers started off hot, raking in three runs in the top of the first inning. Outfielder Victoria Draper started off the scoring for the Tigers, when she ran home off a sac fly from Justus Perry. Later in the first, Alyssa Rivera hit a single to allow KK Crocker and Kendall Veach to score, giving Rivera two RBIs for the game.

“I think it’s important when you’re in your first road game that you get off to a really quick start offensively with the top of our lineup, and they will really set the tone in that first inning. We got that done,” Auburn head coach Mickey Dean said. “It enabled our pitchers to be able to go out and attack and relax. That’s what we are looking for on the road.”

Things cooled off until the fourth, when outfielder Morgan Podany singled to first, allowing Rivera to plate. Perry later hit another single in the fifth inning for an RBI, bringing her total on the year to 10 RBIs, leading the team.

Even though the team scored five runs, the win would not have been possible without pitcher Kaylee Carlson, who extended her decision record to 4-0 on the year. Carlson pitched for four innings and racked up seven strikeouts, and only allowed one hit throughout the game.

The Tigers will look to improve to 8-0 on the year this Friday, when they will take on Delaware for the first game in the Tiger Invitational at home. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
