Auburn will be down starting cornerback Jamel Dean for its season opener against Washington.
After reports said Dean suffered a hand injury last week, the junior has been ruled out for the Chick-fil-A Kickoff, per the event's official pregame lineups. Junior defensive back Javaris Davis will start in Dean's place.
On Monday, Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports reported that Dean had been powering through a right hand injury since last week. According to the report, Dean was wearing soft brace with his pinky and ring finger wrapped. As of Monday, Dean was still able to grasp objects with the hand.
On Auburn's first depth chart, released Tuesday, Dean and Noah Igbinoghene were the starting corners, with Davis in the middle at the nickel/star position. Davis is replaced by sophomore Jayvaughn Myers in the lineup.
Last season, Dean patrolled the secondary as one of Kevin Steele's top cover corners.
Auburn and Washington are set to kick off inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 2:30 p.m. CST on ABC.
