University to have 3D lightshow on Samford Lawn to thank donors

From 8-10 p.m. this Friday, Samford Hall will come alive with a 3D presentation honoring Auburn donors.

The presentation will also show Saturday night after the football game against LSU. It can also be watched live on Auburn’s Facebook page.

The spectacle is a special 3D projection video that highlights different aspects of what is going to happen at Auburn as a result of the recent fundraising campaign.

“What we do with the video is use the effects to make Samford Hall come to life and make sure that it is complementary to its history and what the campaign is standing for and all of the goals achieved,” said Danielle Crosby, account manager for Quince Imaging.

Eight video projectors will converge into one image on Samford for a brighter-than-life effect.

"This is a unique situation for us because we’re mapping on an iconic building that’s been around, so you’re kind of mixing the old with the new — a super old building with very new technology,” Crosby said.

After nearly a year of working on this project, Jane DiFolco Parker, vice president for development and president of the Auburn University Foundation, is excited for the kick-off.

“We know that there will be a lot of people on campus and this will be a great opportunity for us to thank them and just to show through bringing the exterior of Samford Hall alive — the real world impact of the campaign,” DiFolco Parker said.

The show was conceived as a way to thank the members of the Auburn Family, who participated in their recent "Because this is Auburn" fundraising campaign. It is meant to show the donors the real-world impact of their contributions.

“It’s all about impact. It’s exciting to raise a lot of money in support of Auburn, but it’s not about the dollars," DiFolco Parker said. "It’s about what happens as a result.”
