Tuesday night, student huddled together to brace the cold as the elections committee announced the Top 20 candidates for Miss Auburn 2019 on Cater Lawn.
Miss Auburn is a position held by a woman during her junior year at the university. Her official job is to serve as the hostess of Auburn University, embodying the spirit of Auburn as she represents the university to the student body, community and alumni.
The women that were announced as the Top 20 were humbled to receive this opportunity. Caroline Shea, a junior in elementary education, emphasized this point when ask how she felt to receive this opportunity.
“There are so many women on this campus, nominated or not, that are worthy of this job and would do a great job serving Auburn, the student body and surrounding community,” Shea said. “It is definitely the opportunity of a lifetime, and honestly unexpected, but very exciting,”.
The candidates also expressed their excitement about moving on to the next round. Makalyn Heaslett, a junior in public relations, said she was even thrilled just to receive a nomination.
“Honestly it’s a dream come true,” Heaslett said. “I even told them in the interview that it was a dream just to sit in front of them and interview because it is such an honor. My big brother went here and he graduated in 2013, and this is just something I’ve dreamed of forever,”.
Interviews for the Top 5 positions will occur tomorrow, Wednesday November 28th. Callouts will follow after on the steps of Cater Hall at 7p.m.
