The new Student Activities Center ballroom will include an expanded stage, new lighting, theater equipment, acoustical treatment and event furniture.

A renovation project on the Student Activities Center began earlier in October 2018. This space will be used mainly by the Division of Student Affairs and will total in cost to about $7 million.

The main purpose of the project was to refurbish the existing 33,400 square feet. One of the new features will be a multipurpose event space with 1,200 seats, an expanded stage, new lighting and new theater equipment. The update will also add a modernization of the corridors and expansion of the bathrooms to meet the building code for anticipated higher occupancy.

Martha Gentry, communications manager of Auburn Facilities Management, said this will be a great improvement to the building.

“The purpose of the Student Activities Center renovation project is to meet the need for more space,” Gentry said. “The 1,200-seat theater, for example, will be available for events too small for the Auburn Arena, but too large for the student center.”

New athletic flooring will also be added to 19,600 square feet of the south part of the building used by the Office of Provost and the women’s basketball team.

Ten percent of the project has currently been completed. Some of the steps that have already been taken include demolition of the floor for courts one through four and completion of the new floor. This puts them on schedule to complete Phase I and the start of Phase II in early December.

Currently, the completion date is scheduled for July 2019. For inquires on design, contact Bradley Prater at bap0036@auburn.edu and for construction, Cale Simons at wcs0002@auburn.edu.
