Expansions on the recreational fields, originally built in 1979, began in early November to accommodate the growth of intramural and club sports.

The current fields are comprised of 15 acres of greenspace, located next to the Jane B. Moore Softball Complex. Sports are played there year-round, and the fields are used by 480 intramural teams and 23 club sports, including flag football, sand volleyball and soccer.

The additions are expected to include construction of additional softball fields, volleyball courts, several multi-use fields, a fieldhouse and a 2,400 square-foot maintenance building. The new fields will also include sports turf and LED lighting.

Jennifer Jarvis, executive director of campus recreation, said many students are looking forward to the completion of this expansion.

“This is a very exciting project for our students,” Jarvis said. “As you know, there is a huge demand on our current fields, and these fields will help us meet the needs of our students."

The total budget for the project is approximately $17 million. The construction is projected to last until Summer 2019, and fields should be in use by late August or early September.
