After a full campaign week, Mary Stewart, senior in communications, was named Auburn's 2019 Miss Homecoming.

“My thoughts were, ‘whatever happens, it’s been such a blessing to be a part of it, it will be fine,’” Stewart said. “And then it just happened so fast. There was no time to prepare myself at all.”

Before the announcement at half time, the top five candidates were all smiles with their friends and families on the sidelines. Those smiles only got bigger after Stewart was proclaimed the winner.

Steward’s platform was positioned around standing for those who can’t stand alone. She’s been working closely with Special Deliveries of Lee County.

Special Deliveries is the Child Abuse Prevention Center for the Auburn area, and it's centered around strengthening families so that children are safe and healthy. They provide several types of services including counseling, case management, family support and parent education.

Stewart’s campaign spread awareness throughout the week for the Special Deliveries program, and even though Miss Homecoming is over, she has no intentions of stopping. She plans to continue to drive attention for this program and all of its services.

“I want students to know they can get involved,” Stewart said.  “I don’t think they did before, and now that they do, we will be able to work with Special Deliveries more. We can have a better relationship between the Auburn student body and Special Deliveries.”
