The gravesite of Officer William Buechner was vandalized on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020. 

Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said the Auburn Police Division was alerted to the damage and took immediate action. 

“The Auburn Police Division was made aware that the gravesite of Officer William Buechner was disturbed,” Dorsey said. “Cemetery personnel restored the site to its original condition immediately after the discovery. The incident is being investigated by Auburn Police.” 

The incident took place at Town Creek Cemetery, the officer’s final resting place. The flowers and flags surrounding the grave were torn up and subsequently ripped from the ground, police said.

Officer Buechner passed away in the line of duty at age 37 on May 19, 2019.
