Police tape surrounds a crime scene.

The Auburn Police Division is investigating an alleged homicide involving a 54-year-old woman who was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The incident happened in the 9500 block of U.S. Highway 280 West on Friday at around 6 a.m.

Officials said they first responded to the scene to assist the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department with putting out a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was on fire. Officials said they then found the woman on the same property as the burned vehicle.

The Auburn Police Division is investigating the case as a homicide. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time, officials said.
