During his two years at Auburn, Anthony Schwartz, or “The Flash,” has flashed his big-play potential.

He kicked off the 2019 Texas A&M game with a 57-yard jet sweep touchdown and a 76-yard touchdown reception against Tennessee in 2018.

But at times, Schwartz has gone quiet. In Auburn’s 2019 loss to LSU, Schwartz recorded just three receptions for 33 yards.

Schwartz was limited in 2019 due to a hand injury, ending the season with 35 receptions for 391 yards and a touchdown. He carried the ball 11 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Combining his big-play ability with the lack of consistency from game-to-game makes Schwartz the wide receiver X-Factor for Auburn. The talent is there.

Whether by the fault of coaching schemes, quarterbacks, or Schwartz himself, there hasn’t been enough consistency in Schwartz’s game.

Auburn fans know what they’re getting out of Seth Williams, week in and week out. He’s the clear No. 1 wide receiver and could be a 1,000-yard receiver for Auburn this year.

Behind Schwartz is senior Eli Stove, who worked his way back from a torn ACL last season but still managed to put up 37 receptions for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

Shedrick Jackson could step into a more prominent role as he is used as a blocking receiver but can still catch as he had two receptions for 31 yards last season.

Matthew Hill was a candidate to be the wide receiver X-Factor, but head coach Gus Malzahn said in April that Hill was a candidate to move to defensive back this season.

To round out the class, Auburn brought in four wide receivers in its 2020 class: Elijah Canion, Ze’Vian Capers, J.J. Evans and Kobe Hudson.

With an expected added emphasis on the passing game under new offensive coordinator Chad Morris, Schwartz could have a breakout season that Auburn fans have been waiting on.
