Police tape surrounds a crime scene.

A female Auburn University student reported she was raped in an on-campus residence hall early Wednesday morning, according to an email sent to Auburn University students late Wednesday night.

The email states that the student reported she was raped by a male student she met Tuesday night.

The email states that statistics show that 90% of all completed or attempted rapes on campuses are committed by acquaintances.

The email advises students that if they are a victim of sexual assault to preserve evidence, including not showering or changing clothing; call 911 or go to a hospital and request a Sexual Assault Forensic Exam — often called a “rape kit” — ; report the crime to police and Auburn University’s Title IX Coordinator, if the survivor chooses to do so.
