After back-to-back 26-point performances, Auburn guard Justin Powell was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday.

The freshman out of Prospect, Kentucky, is the first Auburn player to earn conference honors this season.

In Auburn’s most recent game against Memphis, Powell was 9-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Powell scored 15 of Auburn’s 37 second-half points in the 74-71 win over Memphis.

Powell is averaging 16.8 points, 3.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds through five games this season and will look to continue his streak of successful play when Auburn hosts Texas Southern on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CST in Auburn Arena.
