Auburn’s Trace Bright has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The honor comes after the right-hander’s performances against Alabama A&M and Texas A&M over the past week.
The sophomore is the first Auburn pitcher to be awarded the honor since Jack Owen in week four of the 2019 season.
Hailing from Montgomery, Alabama, Bright struck out a career-high seven batters in his first start this season against Alabama A&M on Feb. 23. He matched his career-low of hits allowed with two and didn’t give up a walk in four innings of work.
Against Texas A&M on Sunday, Bright had a career performance in the Round Rock Classic. He worked a career-high six shutout innings, holding an Aggie team that had scored 20 runs over its previous two games to just three hits.
"For him to give us six scoreless innings there with 20 mile-per-hour winds blowing straight out, for him to pitch that way in that ballpark was impressive and even more impressive in person," said head coach Butch Thompson.
Bright’s earned-run average is second-lowest amongst Auburn starters, sitting just below one, at 0.82 on the season. His two wins this season are tied for most in the SEC.
Auburn’s next game will be against Jacksonville State on Tuesday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. CST from Plainsman Park in Auburn.
