This year’s Plainsman’s Choice for best female athlete goes to the double-double queen of Auburn women’s basketball — Unique Thompson.

Since stepping on the Plains in 2017, Thompson climbed her way into the record books, grabbing accolade after accolade throughout her career.

This past season, Thompson led her team in nearly every offensive category; she was first in points with 370, free throws made with 81 and rebounds with 268.

The Theodore, Alabama, native averaged a double-double this season with 17.6 points per game and 12.8 rebounds per game. Her 58 career double-doubles are the most in Auburn history.

Earlier this season, on Feb. 23, Thompson grabbed a rebound with 5:27 to go in the third quarter in a game against Mississippi State. It was career rebound No. 1,119 for Thompson, passing Becky Jackson for most all-time in Auburn history.

“It means everything to me,” Thompson said of the record in a press conference following the game. “It’s hard to not get choked up and teary-eyed. I had goosebumps the whole game. Before the game I was a nervous wreck, just knowing what I had to do tonight. Once I looked up and saw that I had (10 rebounds), I couldn’t do anything but smile. I knew I had to work hard and it wasn’t going to come easy.”
