An Auburn Tiger has won gold in Tokyo.
Zach Apple, who swam at Auburn from 2015-18, won gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay as a member of Team USA. Apple served as the team’s anchor and swam his 100 meters in 46.69 seconds.
Team USA finished the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay with a combined time of 3:08:97, while Italy took silver with a 3:10:11 and Australia won bronze with a 3:10:22.
Apple is a first-time Olympian and will have another chance to compete in this year's games as he is also swimming in the 100m freestyle.
