As "The Bachelor" moves into week four, every fan of the hit reality TV show is on the edge of their seat wondering who will get the final rose. Many students on campus are passionate about the show and look forward to watching it every week.
"The Bachelor" consists of 12 episodes that are at least two hours long. That means each contestant has 12 weeks to show this season’s Bachelor, Zach Shallcross, whether they’re wifey material.
According to ABC, “He strives to find a love that echoes the standard [his parents] have set for him, and he plans to keep them in mind when looking for a life partner.”
Shallcross stole the hearts of thirty contestants and the rest of Bachelor Nation on the premiere of the twenty-seventh season on January 23, 2023. While the California native is known for his genuine personality and tunnel vision for meeting his true love, many fans have mixed emotions about Zach’s first impression.
Emma Lowell, freshman majoring in human development and family sciences and a loyal watcher of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” says, “I like that he isn’t putting up with drama, but I don’t think he is that interesting of a guy.”
Mena Orso, freshman in speech language and hearing sciences, agrees with Lowell, saying that she would have chosen someone else if the decision were up to her.
Orso stated that her favorite contestant is Jess Girod because “she seems really innocent and really sweet” and because of “how she supports the other girls.” While she favors Girod, Lowell has high hopes for contestant Kylee Russell to win it all.
Many fans are getting heated about all the drama going on, but Audrey Owens, freshman in psychology, believes in Shallcross to save the day.
“I think he is awesome. He is very straightforward with what he wants and is not wanting any drama,” said Owens.
Owens said her favorite contestant is also Girod. In fact, Owens anticipates Girod to receive the final rose at the closing of the show. Like Lowell, Owens loves Girod for her sweet disposition.
Another popular contestant, Charity Lawson, graduated from Auburn with a bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and disability in 2018 and later acquired a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. During her time at Auburn, Lawson was a member of Iota Delta Sigma and volunteered with The Eagles Program.
Orso admires Lawson because she’s a fellow Auburn grad and “is so sweet and genuine.”
In true Bachelor fashion, the show’s third episode was full of drama that kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
The escalating drama with contestant Christina Mandrell in the past episodes lead Kristina Honeycutt, sophomore in nursing, to put the contestant at the bottom of her list.
“She bragged a lot about her one on one with Zach and would not stop talking about it,” said Honeycutt.
Shallcross must have agreed with Honeycutt at the conclusion of Mandrell’s last rose ceremony, as the contestant was eliminated in week three.
This season of “The Bachelor” is heating up fast with twists and turns every week, and Auburn’s own little Bachelor Nation is here for it.
