For the second consecutive year, SkyBar Cafe has won the Plainsman’s Choice award for best bar. The two-level bar has become a staple in Auburn’s downtown scene for students and residents since its inception in 2005.
After nominations and nearly 300 votes, SkyBar beat out contenders 1716, Auburn Plaza Bar and Lounge and Avondale Bar and Taproom, garnering 32.9% of the vote.
Skybar has become known for its weekly events which include karaoke, bingo and trivia. The “SEC’s largest party bar” also serves food and their patrons are able to order pizza and hotdogs in addition to drinks.
Recently, SkyBar has begun hosting themed nights which has gained popularity amongst students. They have hosted One Direction night, Taylor Swift night, Pitbull night, Justin Bieber night and most recently Drake night.
Ben Bruud is a consistent DJ for SkyBar’s “Throwback Thursdays” and these themed nights.
“SkyBar is one of the best environments I’ve ever DJed in,” Bruud said. “I’ve traveled all across the Southeast to many different venues and nothing can compare to the energy of Sky. It’s the equivalent of an adult playground – multiple levels, different rooms, quiet areas and dancefloors. It’s unmatched.”
Although hours of operation vary, Skybar Cafe posts its schedules daily, including details about specials, events and live performances.
