Auburn prepares for two-game road trip against Syracuse and Army

After a 5-0 win over the Troy Trojans, the Auburn Tigers (1-0-1) head on the road to New York to face the Syracuse Orange (1-1) and the Army Black Knights (0-1-1).

This season marks head coach Karen Hoppa’s 25th year leading the Auburn Tigers. Hoppa is one of 13 Division I coaches with at least 30 years of head coaching experience and is one of two women and two coaches in the SEC to reach the mark.

Before the season, four Tigers were listed on the SEC Preseason Watch List: Anna Haddock, Madeline Moore, Sydney Richards and Maddie Prohaska. Prohaska, the starting goalkeeper, is seven saves away from securing the 200th save of her career. Only five former players have surpassed their 200th save at Auburn.

Leading Auburn’s offense, fifth-year midfielder/forward Richards is off to a hot start with two goals in the opening two games. Trailing behind Richards’ lead, senior midfielder Haddock has one goal, one assist and three points.

Syracuse opened its 2023 season with a 1-0 loss to the University of Delaware but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Siena College. The Orange look to secure a win over the Tigers after losing 2-0 to Auburn in 2019. Richards is the only Tiger to face Syracuse.

Leading the Orange, redshirt freshman forward Erin Flurey has collected one goal, one assist and three points in the first two games. Sophomore midfielder/defenseman Alyssa Abramson and senior forward Hannah Pilley follow with one goal each.

The Black Knights look to redeem themselves as they head on the road to face Wagner before facing the Tigers at West Point. Army started its season with a 2-0 loss to UNC Greensboro and tying 1-1 with Wake Forest.

Senior forward Jasmine Talley leads the team with one goal and junior defenseman Elizabeth Oberhaus trails with one assist and one point.

Auburn plays Syracuse first on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. CST on ACC Network Extra. Then, the Tigers end their first road trip at West Point on Sunday, Aug. 27 at noon CST on ESPN+.
