Letter from the Editor: Au revoir Plainsman

Everybody tells you that college will go by fast. It’s not like I didn’t believe them, it’s just different when you experience it first-hand.

To say that college flew by would be an understatement. The past four years seem to have passed in warp speed. It’s cheesy, but time truly flies when you’re having fun.

Every single day I walk to campus and I pass by Samford Hall on my way to class, I think about just how blessed I am to be here, to learn here, to meet the incredible people that I’ve met here and to experience the adventures that I have here.

Many of those adventures have been at The Plainsman. From covering my very first ‘gamer’ as a new writer in the sports section, to going on the Paul Finebaum show when SEC Gameday came to Auburn. From breaking my first story, to guesting on podcasts and radio shows across the country, I have been gifted experiences that I’ll treasure for the rest of my life.

The headstrong little girl with big dreams, who loved to capture stories and put them on paper, got to spend college doing exactly that.

The Plainsman not only allowed me to polish and guide my passion into a relentless drive for truth, but it has uniquely prepared me for my future endeavors. Through this organization, I have grown in my boldness to stand for truth and in my mental fortitude to face attacks and challenges without fear.

After graduation, I’ll be packing my bags and heading for our nation’s capitol.

At a time when our country is so divided and when there are countless false narratives meant to drive an even deeper wedge, I have been given the opportunity to use my talents and experiences to serve others. I aim to do my part in bringing people together and making my corner of the world a better place.

As I say goodbye to Auburn and step into this new season, I hope more than anything, that I won’t change too much. Yes, I’ll grow and mature, but I want to keep being the headstrong storyteller I always have been, keep living out my faith, keep believing in our country- “because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by 'doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.'"
