Aggie Kalyn Hunt, 36, wife of Lee County Sheriff-elect Cam Hunt, was arrested Monday for domestic violence in the third degree.
Aggie Kalyn Hunt was booked into the Lee County Jail at 12 a.m. Her bond was set at $1,000.
Cam Hunt was recently elected to serve as Lee County’s next sheriff, unseating Jay Jones, the county’s sheriff for the last 28 years. Cam Hunt released a statement Monday evening on Facebook.
“This is a private family matter involving people I love and care about deeply. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will not be discussing details publicly or engaging in speculation online," Cam Hunt said. "I understand there will naturally be commentary and rumors, but I would ask people to remember that my family deserves privacy, grace and dignity during a difficult moment."
The Opelika Police Department will not be releasing more details due to the sensitivity of parties involved in misdemeanor and domestic violence cases.
“I also want people to know that I’m fine, the kids are fine and Kalyn is fine. While this situation has unfortunately become public, it is still a deeply personal matter for our family," Cam Hunt said. "My focus right now is on my children, my family and moving forward appropriately. I appreciate the concern, prayers and support from those who have reached out."
