impressive season of any pitcher in the SEC this year. He is 6-1 with a 1.23
ERA and leads the conference with 82 strikeouts. On Friday, however, Mize was earned
one of the most prestigious honors of his collegiate career.

Stymied by the offensive explosion of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the No. 11 Auburn Tigers fell on Tuesday night at Plainsman Park, 11-8. The Tigers scored eight runs and tallied nine hits, however the Yellow Jackets bested the home squad in both of those categories, recording 11 runs and a whopping 15 hits.

No. 17 Auburn was unable to clinch the series against #6 South
Carolina on Saturday evening, as the Gamecock bats heated up late after a slow
start, while a poor offensive performance by the Tigers only generated 5 hits,
tying a season low. The game was scoreless through 4 innings, until South
Carolina finally got on the board with an RBI triple courtesy of Carlos Cortes in
the 5th inning. That was followed immediately by an RBI single, and the
Gamecocks took a 2-run lead into the 6th. Cortes continued his big
night by hitting a grand slam in the 6th inning, extending the lead
to 6-0. Auburn was unable to muster a response, and eventually fell by a final
score of 7-0.

In front of a packed Plainsman Park, Auburn started off strong and held on late to defeat South Carolina 5-4. Auburn improved to 22-6 overall and 6-1 in SEC play. South Carolina dropped to 18-7 and 5-2 in the SEC.

For the past nine years, the MAX Capital City Classic has provided an early opportunity for Auburn or Alabama to grab mid-season bragging rights.
