This year's Golden Globe Awards by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had many twists and turns, and some surprising winners. “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” took home the most awards of the night, with four. Other notable wins were Guillermo del Toro winning Best Director for “The Shape of Water” which stars Auburn alumna Octavia Spencer in a supporting role, for which she was nominated for as well.

The fourth season of Charlie Brooker's mind-bending anthology series "Black Mirror" was released to the world on Dec. 29 and fans of the series have likely already binged the six-episode season. However, if you're on the fence about watching the series, don't fret. Being an anthology series, the current 19 episode lineup is easy to binge as each episode, ranging from 45-90 minutes in length, offers a completely new story with each episode having a different set of actors, setting and tone from the last. Therefore, there's no need to worry about seeing previous seasons for continuity's sake.

Halfway through modeling nude for a figure drawing class, Maddie Richards decided she wanted a tattoo in a place private to her, somewhere usually only she would see – her butt. She got the tattoo, remembered she had to model the following Thursday and braced for the reaction of the artists.

Puppers, doggos, and woofers, oh my! The ‘OG Auburn Dogspotting’ GroupMe is taking the campus by storm. The count on the chat is currently 1,630 people. This has become a community of dog lovers that come together to send pictures of their fur babies, ask for advice, and help other dog owners. Many students cannot bring their own dog to college, so they live through this GroupMe. They cling to the pictures sent, because they do not have their own dog to greet them when they get home after a long day.

In 2017 more music was bought on vinyl records than was legally downloaded. This is due in part to the popularization of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, but also to the growing revival of vinyl records among young people.

The Amazon Echo was one of the best-selling gifts of 2017 and is now in many homes across the United States, answering commands and playing music. It sells at a price of $99.99 and now comes in different fabrics or finishes. This voice-enabled technology can obey commands as simple as telling the weather, checking traffic or playing a song; or it can complete more intricate ones like turning lights on and off in the home - and it is only getting smarter.

Obvious to anyone who plays games, 2017 was a fantastic year for gaming; definitely one of the best in recent memory. The AAA market delivered, interesting indie games brought welcome surprises and Nintendo finally entered back into the forefront with the release of the Switch.

Gyms everywhere are supposedly packed to the brim at the start of the year. Regular gymgoers groan about the slew of new members resolving to chase their fitness goals down once and for all this year. But are gyms really busier in January than at any other time of the year? For Auburn area fitness centers, it turns out that while there is some truth to this assertion, the answer is more complicated than a straightforward “yes.”
