Tigers Take To Skies In Professional Aviation Management

Every major at Auburn University can prepare someone for a successful and rewarding career, but only one can teach someone to fly the Goodyear blimp.The professional flight management degree prepares students for careers in every variety of flight."With the professional flight management degree, students can come to Auburn to obtain a 4-year accredited business degree and also learn how to fly," said Joe Hanna, aviation and supply chain management department chairman and professor.

Recession Revitalizes Computer Science and Software Engineering

While other programs at colleges across the nation have seen a decline in the past two years, computer science programs have seen a 14 percent increase nation-wide.Richard Chapman, professor in computer science, said enrollment in computer science programs generally follows patterns of the economy, and Auburn is on the high end of the curve."When people see opportunity in a field, they flock to it," Chapman said.Barrett Hoover, junior in mechanical engineering, said he chose engineering because he sees the need for engineers."Engineering applies to every part of our lives now," Hoover said.

Crowd Packs Goodwin for Guest Recital

The Music Department presented a guest artist recital featuring violinist Liana Gourdija and pianist Efi Hackmey at the Goodwin Recital Hall Saturday evening.The crowd gave the duo a standing ovation after their hour and a half performance. Both performers offered to sign copies of their self-titled CD, which was released Friday and sold after the show.

Hundreds of Auburn students gathered in the Student Center ballroom Wednesday evening, standing in line for tickets, looking for seats and waiting patiently for the UPC speaking event to start.On almost every foot, in almost every direction could be seen the same style of canvas loafer, a badge that signified the crowd's devotion to the cause of speaker Blake Mycoskie, the entrepreneur and philanthropist founder of TOMS Shoes.

Professor Shares Feminist Views and Theories

In 1919 woman struggled and suffered to earn their right to vote, and for centuries many woman have fought for equality in this country. Thursday, Toril Moi spoke to an audience of mostly young female students about "The Body in Feminist Theory."Moi is a professor of literature and romance studies at Duke University. She has also written several novels and essays on feminism.

Musicians Jam For Wings, Diabetes Aid

High notes were hit, change rattled and wings were devoured as the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority hosted its ninth annual Wing Jam event at Buffalo Connection Tuesday night. The event offered 17 bands and singer-songwriters an opportunity to showcase their talent and raise money for diabetes research. With contestants paying a $20 entry fee and spectators giving money for their favorite performer, the remaining proceeds from the prize money will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Performers were allotted enough time to perform one song, after which Alpha Gam members collected donations from the audience in Tupperware containers.

Jog For Justice

It costs $500 to bring just one person back to the United States after being trafficked. To promote human rights awareness, the International Justice Mission chapter at Auburn University, a human rights organization that works to free victims of human trafficking, slavery and domestic violence in East Asia, Southeast Asia, India and Africa, sponsored a 5K March 28.

Board of Trustees Change Tuition Prices

The University adopted a new plan today which will help students save money and ensure they graduate on time, according to a news release.The release said students will be allowed to take more than 12 hours of coursework during the fall and spring semesters, and even take classes part-time during summers, at lower prices.

Hospitality Gala

As more than 300 formal attire-clad guests shuffled into the Auburn University Hotel and Dixon Conference Center Thursday evening, the elite team of hospitality students and coordinators reassessed its intricate checklists for the final time. Under the direction of Alecia Douglas, 21 students in Auburn University's special events management class teamed up with the hotel to plan The Hospitality Gala, an annual signature event.

Brighter horizons for Nicaragua

Families in La Chureca, Nicaragua, live in a giant trash dump and survive on the small amounts of money they receive from recycling reusable materials from the trash. A group of Auburn students made the trek to La Chureca to to help the citizens and expand their horizons. "The real goal of this trip was to really feed these kids, and not just physically--feed them physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually,"
