Bass Fishing club sinks to Tide

NICOLE EMMETTThe Auburn Bass Fishing club was defeated by Alabama Saturday morning at Logan Martin Lake in Birmingham for the Bassmaster College Classic.The Iron Bowl of Fishing was a six-hour event.Close to 400 fans crowded around the Toyota Tundra weigh-in booth to watch the day's events unfold.Three two-man teams from each school fished for a cumulative weight.Alabama weighed in at almost 26 lbs.

As spring break approaches, women continued to fill the Step and Pump class in the Student Act as they stepped, side-kicked and shoulder-pressed Monday evening.The 47 participants exercised intensely for an hour to upbeat music from Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Akon."It's time to think about something in your life that needs a kick," said Emily Quinn, instructor and freshman in fine art, as she lifted her leg high in the air.Quinn said she has seen an increase in the number of people working out in the Student Act since last year and that the high numbers have remained steady so far."There is usually a large crowd at the beginning of the year that fades around February," Quinn said.

Auburn Women's Rugby club begins first spring play

Water Polo makes a splash, hosts memorial tournament

The Auburn Water Polo club invited 10 teams to participate in the 14th Annual Chris Young Memorial Tournament this weekend."The tournament seemed to be a success, a few of our hostesses helped run the table and make preparations for the tournament which was a huge help," said Patrick Gilday, club president and senior in software engineering.Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Emory, Dynamo, Tulane, Texas and an Auburn Alum team traveled to The Plains.Georgia was invited but pulled out at the last minute, leaving Auburn to fill its time slots.

For those who want to mix up their workout routine, Auburn's Campus Recreation Department has introduced Turbo Jam within the lifetime and fitness program to better fit the workout needs of students."We try something new every semester, and this semester is Turbo Jam," said fitness coordinator Pamela Wiggins.Although Turbo Jam helps tone the body, it is mainly a cardiovascular exercise with many styles of kicks to work out both upper and lower body as well as add variety to your workout."It's a great way to stay in shape and have fun," said group fitness instructor Megan Steele.

The Yellows fight to hold 2009 title

When Anna Lane started The Yellows, then The Oranges, her freshman year she had no idea they would be so successful at intramural basketball.Lane, junior in health administration, recruited friends she played basketball with at Grissom High School in Hunstville to join the team.The Oranges, a member of the women's independent intramural basketball league, earned the title of 2009 women's intramural champions and then went on to beat the sorority league champions."I started the team when I was a freshman and now people ask to be on the team and it gets kind of hard because you can't have too many people because of playing time," Lane said.The Yellows, who remain undefeated, beat ACF 5 4211 with 6:50 left in the second half when the 30-point-lead mercy rule was enforced."Most of the teams we've played were Christian Centers so they're all nice about it," Lane said.Their success has not gone unnoticed by friends and basketball enthusiasts.The Yellows had the biggest fan section of all of the women's intramural teams playing Monday.Adam Fox, junior in physics, said he comes to all of The Yellow's games to support his girlfriend, Lane.Lane's friends usually recruit a big crowd to come."I came to support my friend Anna who played basketball in high school," said Britney Kelley, senior in psychology.
