A spirit that is not afraid

Twitter reacts to Rodeo changes

As of this year, Alpha Psi will not be allowing coolers into their Spring philanthropic event, now called Round-Up.

“If you have a cooler, you may be asked to leave, or the cooler will be confiscated.”

Tailgating is also no longer and “security will be instructed to direct everyone into the venue once they park," according to the "What’s New in 2017" section of Alpha Psi’s website.

On Feb. 10, 2017, Alpha Psi  tweeted  a clarification on its new Rodeo replacement account, Round-Up, in response to students’ reactions to the changes.

Over the past few days, we have received numerous emails asking for clarification on the new rules we have put in place for Round-Up. We now understand the concern regarding some of the new policies, specifically the no tailgating rule.

We must first apologize, because much of the confusion is due to a failure (on our part) to communicate the rules properly. The gates to the Round-Up venue will again (just like in 2016) open at 11 am, and we request that all attendees be inside once the events start. This should give everyone enough time to park et settled, “do as they wish”, and then enter the event.

We will NOT be allowing coolers into the fenced in event area. The NO TAILGATING policy is designed to prevent people from spending all day in the parking lot rather than attending all of the great events Round-Up has to offer. Between the time you arrive and before you enter the fenced in event area, please be responsible in the parking area so that we can ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable time.

Again,

Our expectations are that people arrive by 11 am to casually socialize and meet up with the rest of their group, but that they will be making their way into the event area no later than 1 pm for opening ceremonies. We would like to remind people that seating is first come first serve, unless you have contacted us for trailer reservations. So, don’t tailgate too long and miss grabbing the best seats in the house. Lastly, please remember that we have something in the works for the 12-1 om hour inside the event area—we hope to announce the final plans along with the beverage selection and pricing this weekend.

Thanks for your support and patience. WDR!

Old Row, a well-known college account, retweeted Alpha Psi’s statement with a quote and added, “See what happens when you put a little pressure on people.”

To that,  Alpha Psi responded, “Pressure makes diamonds @OldRowOfficial.”

When Alpha Psi announced their changes, students on Twitter reacted with hashtag #NotMyRodeo.
