Auburn Athletics sending pep buses to Starkville for Auburn vs. Miss State

Much to the delight of head coach Bruce Pearl, the support for Auburn basketball is reaching SEC football levels of crazy.

After an Auburn Arena sellout against Ole Miss, where the Auburn student section showed out for its largest attendance in the Pearl era, Auburn Athletics will send student pep buses to Starkville, Mississippi for Auburn's fourth conference contest against the Bulldogs this Saturday.

"It just makes each environment very bowl-like, very tournament-like," Pearl said. "Like the NCAA Tournament, it's not the place is full and we've got 20 people sitting behind our bench, maybe, and that's it. That doesn't make for as competitive an environment."

After announcing the bus plan Wednesday, the student demand boomed.

“We’ve got at least two buses of students heading west,” Pearl said Thursday. “That’s really exciting for our students and for our fans. It’s not going to win or lose us the game, but it’ll really improve the environment.”

Auburn students can email marketing@auburn.edu to reserve a seat. $50 covers travel, ticket and a meal for the trip. The deadline for signup is 5 p.m. CT Thursday, Jan. 11.
