Auburn Women's Rugby Club branches off Men's Rugby Club

A sport once known to be played by mostly men is now open to women and is making its way to women in Auburn.Auburn Women's Rugby Club opened its recruitment to find those interested in learning the game of rugby and most of all those who just want to have a good time.The club was granted provisional status by the Auburn Student Government Association and will seek an official vote to receive full club status Nov.

Auburn Men's Tennis team won the Wilson/ITA South Regional Saturday with perfect wins in two of the competitions."We had a great weekend, winning both the singles and doubles titles," said head coach Eric Shore.The regionals were in New Orleans, starting Oct.

Volleyball takes down Bama, Miss. State

Auburn Volleyball improved its record this weekend, sweeping Alabama and Mississippi State at home.The Tigers sit alone at second in the SEC West with a record of 14-8 overall and 6-5 in conference.In both matches, the team had a strong showing in the first game, but let things get close in the second and third games.Associate head coach Chris Campbell said these games showed the team's youth."It is good to know that in certain situations we are capable of coming from behind," Campbell said.

Women's Golf ties for 2nd place at NCAA Fall Preview

Auburn Women's Golf team ended its fall season with an ace of a tournament at the NCAA Fall Preview.The third-ranked women's golf team tied for second in a field consisting of nine of the top 10 and 17 of the top 25 teams in the country."This weekend has been great," said head coach Kim Evans in a release.

Women's Basketball Showcases Talent

Fans wanting to get a look at this year's women's basketball team got an unpleasant surprise as junior Reneisha Hobbs took a nasty spill on the court Sunday evening.The veteran player hurt her knee during a break-away layup while practicing in front of the crowd.

Auburn Gears up for Iron Bowl of Soccer

Coming off an exciting 2-0 shutout over No. 19 Georgia (13-4-1, 6-4-0 SEC) Sunday, the Auburn Women's Soccer team (8-7-3, 5-5-0 SEC) has spent this week preparing to play arch-rival Alabama (6-9-1, 2-6-1 SEC) in the Iron Bowl of Soccer, Friday at 7 p.m."Alabama, just like in any sport, is one of those games, especially at Alabama, that records are out the window," said head coach Karen Hoppa.

Tigers Prepare to take on the Rebels

Auburn Tigers Football team (5-3) will face No. 24 Ole Miss Rebels (5-2) in Auburn's first Halloween showdown since 1988.The Tigers will try to make it three straight wins against the Rebels in Jordan-Hare Stadium while trying to break a three game losing streak to become bowl eligible.Auburn is coming off a tough 31-10 loss against SEC foe Louisiana State University.

Trip to Tennessee triumph for Auburn women's soccer

Last Thursday, the women's soccer team traveled to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in one of the team's final matchups before the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach.The Auburn Tigers were victorious with a final score of 3-1, ruining Tennessee's senior night. This was Auburn's first win against Tennessee in Knoxville in five years.The Auburn team started off slow. Going into halftime, Tennessee was ahead 1-0.

Cross Country finish 6th, 23rd at Pre-Nationals

Auburn Cross Country team finished strong Saturday at the 2009 Pre-Nationals which was hosted by Indiana State University.The men managed to finish in sixth place while the women finished 23rd.The team competed against major competition such as in-state rival Alabama and SEC rival Florida.The top two performers of the men's team were junior Ben Cheruiyot and senior Felix Kiboiywo.

Auburn Loses Third Straight to LSU

BATON ROUGE, La.-Auburn Tigers football lost its third game in as many weeks Saturday to Louisiana State University, 31-10."LSU played a great game," said Auburn head coach Gene Chizik. "From the beginning to the end, they executed better than we did, and I'd say they beat us in about every phase of the football game."

Women's tennis returns from hard fought tournament

Auburn University Women's Tennis team traveled to Tallahassee, Fla., this past weekend to play in the Seminole Quad tournament, hosted by Florida State University.The team had it's ups and down in the cold weather throughout the tournament with eight out of nine losses in doubles matches and nine out of 17 wins in singles matches."It was fun to get to play teams that we normally don't play during season, but the weather was really cold and windy so it made for some ugly tennis," said Heather Bybee, a 5-foot-1 senior from Longmont, Colo. "It was a good measure of how we are doing with nationally ranked competition like FSU, Florida International University and Iowa, all teams that post consistent results every season."

Water Ski Club Alumni Event Draws Faithful to Faith Lake

Cloudy skies and cold temperatures did not stop student members and alumni of Auburn University's Water Ski Club from competing in the annual alumni tournament Saturday.The Water Ski Club hosted the event at Faith Lake in Shorter."We sent out letters and e-mails for the alumni to come," said Maegan Marcheggiani, a junior in industrial design and president of the club.
