A spirit that is not afraid

Tigers take 4 straight wins from Brown

It took extra innings, but the Tigers managed to put away Brown for the last time in the bottom of the 11th.

Auburn freshman Case McElroy knocked in the game-winning run with a line drive to center field.

"There was a lot of tension in that last at bat," McElroy said. "There were two strikes and the crowd was into it. My main goal was just to make contact and fortunately I was able to come up big for us."

The Tigers were down 8-4 in the sixth inning before mounting a comeback that would send the game into extra innings.

Auburn head coach John Pawlowski said he was proud of the team's effort.

"We were down 8-4, but the one characteristic that this team has shown in the early stages of the season is that we have the ability to come back. We feel like we have the ability to come back and we did that again today," Pawlowski said. "It is hard to beat anyone four times but that was a good win for us today."

Auburn's Austin Hubbard was the closer for the Tigers. Hubbard threw the final 2 1/3 innings and struck out three batters.

"You have to have a guy in the bullpen that can stabilize things and settle things down," Pawlowski said. "Austin came in and did a great job."

Auburn's power hitting has been statistically above average this season. The Tigers have recorded 29 home runs on the year in just 13 games.

The series sweep gave Auburn a seven-game winning streak going back to its lone win versus Florida State. The Tigers also took two wins from Davidson.

Auburn takes on Alabama in Tuesday's Capital City Classic in Montgomery, and then hosts Western Kentucky for a single game Wednesday.

This weekend Auburn will open up SEC play with a trip to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in a three game series.

The Tigers will play host to Arkansas the following weekend in their first home series against an SEC opponent.
