After helping the Tigers to another win against the University of Tennessee, senior quarterback Chris Todd will join teammate senior running back Ben Tate on the 2009 Maxwell Award watch list.
The Maxwell Football Club announced Todd will be one of twelve players added to the list because of noteworthy playing during the 2009 season.
The Maxwell award is given at the end of each year to the outstanding collegiate football player. The award has been given since 1939 and is in honor of Robert W. Maxwell who played football at the University of Chicago.
Votes for the award come from NCAA head college football coaches, member of the Maxwell Football Club and sportswriters and sportscasters from across the United States.
Todd and Tate help power an offense that ranks fifth nationally, averaging 512.8 yards per game. The Tigers scored 207 points this season, which is tied for the most through the first five games of a season in school history and one less than Auburn scored during the entire 2008 season. This year also marks the first time the Tigers ever
scored 40 or more points in three consecutive games.
Todd is the only Auburn quarterback to throw at least four touchdown passes in consecutive games, ranks seventh in the nation in yards per completion (15.19) and eighth nationally in passing efficiency (160.81). Todd's 12 touchdown passes are five more then the team scored
all of last year.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on Nov. 4 and the three finalists will be announced Nov. 23. The winner will be announced during the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Award Show held on Dec. 10.
