Tigers place fourth, miss championship berth

No. 18 Auburn's season came to an end Saturday night as the Tigers, with a score of 196.100, placed fourth in the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Auburn Regional for the second year in a row.

No. 6 Georgia and No. 7 Oregon State took first and second place overall and will advance to the NCAA Championship meet April 21 in Duluth, Ga.

Third place went to No. 21 Michigan with a score of 196.325, while West Virginia and Michigan State placed fifth and sixth, scoring 195.900 and 194.050, respectively.

The Tigers opened with a rough start on the bars, finishing the rotation at 48.900.

Junior Petrina Yokay and freshman Megan Walker led the team with scores of 9.85. Senior Allyson Sandusky earned a 9.8, while freshman Bri Guy, senior Kylie Shields and sophomore Abbey Habicht rounded out the event, each posting a 9.75.

Auburn improved on the beam in the second rotation, posting a 48.975. Sandusky earned the third highest score of the night with a 9.850. Guy earned a 9.825, while Walker posted a 9.800. Yokay and Habicht each added scores of 9.750. Shields had a shaky outing, finishing the event with a 9.500.

As the Tigers moved to the floor, Guy posted a 9.875 to help Auburn to a 48.900 in the event. Her performance tied for fourth overall.

Senior Laura Lane earned a 9.85, while freshman Brittney Webster added a 9.800. Freshman Caryn Kadous scored a 9.725 and Shields posted a score of 9.675, while junior Toi Garcia finished with a 9.300.

Auburn had another strong evening on vault, posting a meet-high score of 49.325 in its final rotation of the evening. Shields led the scoring with a career high 9.95, followed by another career high from Guy with a 9.90.
