A female Montgomery County corrections officer was charged with custodial sexual misconduct Tuesday after allegedly having sex with accused University Heights shooter Desmonte Leonard.
Leonard is being held in the Montgomery County Jail awaiting a Sept. 22 trial for the shooting at the University Heights apartment complex that killed two former Auburn football players and an Opelika man on June 9, 2012.
Chief Deputy Derrick Cunningham said corrections officer Shemarra Montgomery was filmed on a security camera in June of having inappropriate contact with Leonard, and a sheriff's department investigation found evidence that Montgomery and Leonard engaged in sexual intercourse, according to a report on al.com.
Montgomery was arrested Tuesday and later released on bond. Montgomery's husband, Curtis Lemar Montgomery, who works for the Alabama Department of Corrections, was also arrested on charges of hindering prosecution, according to a report by the Montgomery Advertiser.
Leonard cooperated with investigators, and he will not face any disciplinary action, according to Cunningham.
Leonard and the former management company of University Heights, now named Tiger Lodge, recently found out they will face civil lawsuits brought by victims' families.
