The first ever College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday night and Auburn took the third spot.
Filling out the rest of the top four were Mississippi State at 1, Florida State at 2 and Ole Miss at 4.
So, if the season were to end today, Auburn would be participating in this year's inaugural playoff by way of a match up against last year's national championship opponent Florida State.
Opponent wise, Auburn still has to face off against three top-15 teams in these rankings, all three on the road. First at No. 4 Ole Miss this weekend, then between the hedges against No. 11 Georgia, then the Iron Bowl against No. 6 Alabama.
