Halloween is a great holiday for many reasons. It's an acceptable time to dress up so creepily that you scare yourself when you walk by the mirror, but most importantly is the food. And by food I mean candy, and by candy, I mean chocolate.

Pinterest is flooded with different recipes for Halloween food and beverages, some of which are actually so gross looking that I don't think I could stomach them. For example, the dead witches fingers.

I managed to find one that was adorable and most importantly, involved chocolate. They are called the "Spooky Boo Brownies" by Betty Crocker.

All you need is one box of brownie mix, water, vegetable oil, eggs, white frosting, large marshmallows, and black decorating gel.

First, cook the brownies according to recipe. The recipe said to use an 8-9 inch square pan. I had to use a larger pan so the brownies turned out to be a little bit thinner.

I cooked mine for 38 minutes and they were perfect, but thicker brownies probably should cook longer. After I let them cool and cut them, I put one large marshmallow on each square.

After heating the icing for 30 seconds in a bowl, stirring every ten seconds, I spooned the icing on top of the marshmallow.

I waited about an hour, and then used the black icing to draw on the eyes and the mouth's. They looked good at the time, but about ten minutes later all the eyes and mouths had slowly made their way down, making the marshmallows extremely creepy looking.

They taste great, but mine are slightly less cookie-cutter perfect than Betty Crocker's.

The second thing I tried to make are called "Bowl of Worms" which I also found on Pinterest. Those were an epic fail. When I read the directions I thought it said \0xBE cups of whipped cream, but really it said whipping cream. So I decided to do the recipe without it and put the whipped cream on top of them at the end. The photograph shows them pouring the Jell-O mix into the straws with perfection. This was no so easily done.

I placed 150 straws in a small vase like the directions said, so that there was no extra room for the straws to move, or so I thought. After I poured the mix in, pretty much all of it came out of the bottom of the straws and into the vase, leaving the majority of the straws empty.

I decided to still put them in the fridge to see what the outcome would be. After two hours, the Jell-O had turned solid. The directions said to either put the straws under warm water, or roll over them with a rolling pin to get the worms out.

So first I tried warm water with a handful of them, but all that did was liquefy the Jell-O.

I tried rolling them out with a water bottle since we don't have a rolling pin. Nothing happened. Then I decided to just push them out myself.

150 straws later, and the out come was maybe 3 straws that produced anything that even remotely resembled a worm. This was a Pinterest fail.

So when you're preparing for your Halloween parties, definitely try the spooky boo brownies, because they are delicious and I'm sure the only reason mine look the way they do is my lack of artistic ability. Stay away from the Jell-O worms. They will most likely be a major disappointment.
