Sentencing for the University Heights shooter has been delayed until Jan. 7.
Desmonte Leonard will now find out if he will spend the rest of his life in prison or be sentenced to death next year, according to an Opelika-Auburn News report.
Judge Jacob A. Walker originally scheduled Leonard's sentencing for Wednesday, Nov. 5, after a jury found him guilty of capital murder and recommended life in prison on Oct. 7.
Leonard killed two former Auburn football players, Eric Christian and Ladarious Phillips, along with DeMario Pitts of Opelika June 9, 2012, when he fired into a crowd at a party at University Heights apartment complex, now known as Tiger Lodge.
Former Auburn football player Eric Mack, along with John Robertson and Xavier Moss of Roanoke were wounded in the shooting.
Leonard's attorneys argued he fired in self-defense at his trial.
